In the 1920s, Francotyp and Postalia were founded as separate postage meter companies in Germany.

In the early 1960s, the United States Postal Service allowed Postalia to market its postage meters in the United States.

In 1989, after many successful years as independent organizations, Francotyp and Postalia became sister companies as they were acquired by the Rochling Group, one of Germany’s 50 largest industrial enterprises.

In 1993, the two companies merged and became Francotyp-Postalia. The merger strengthened the development of new technologies that would solve customer mailing problems by providing total business solutions.

In 2000, Francotyp-Postalia repositioned itself as FP Mailing Solutions in the USA.

Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, FP launched several new mailing products, including the OptiMail 30, UltiMail, CentorMail, MailOne, and most recently—PostBase.
